Assistance is available for these case types through the Fox Valley Free Legal Assistance Clinics, hosted at four sites per month: family law, small claims, landlord/tenant, domestic abuse, harassment injunctions, probate and wills, guardianships, and property disputes. Depending on the legal issue or depth of a particular concern, the paralegal students may assist individuals with finding proper forms to file, how to complete certain paperwork, providing direction on where to file documents, and/or make referrals to an attorney volunteer.
Clinic representatives encourage visitors to bring any paperwork relevant to their case with them to optimize the time with the volunteers. Clinics will be held monthly at FVTC’s Appleton campus beginning on Saturday, January 14 from 9 a.m. to noon inside entrance 1, and then reoccurring on the first Saturday each month (with exception to holidays).
Additional monthly offerings include locations at the Menasha Public Library, Neenah Public Library, and Oshkosh Public Library. View complete list of dates and times for all volunteer clinics on the website: https://www.fvtc.edu/news/students/student-spotlight/-paralegal-students-part-of-free-legal-assistance-286295. All locations are accessible by public bus transportation.
The Fox Valley Legal Assistance Clinic cannot help individuals who are already represented by an attorney. Only licensed attorneys can provide legal advice, and no other volunteers are permitted to do so by law. Attorney volunteers do not represent individuals seeking advice through any of the clinics and are only available for a brief legal consultation. Fox Valley Technical College disclaims any liability for loss or risk incurred as a consequence, either directly or indirectly, of any and all information given to individuals at the Fox Valley Free Legal Assistance Clinics.
